Psychotherapy / Counselling

Using an unorthodox method of combining Martial Arts (MA) and the therapeutic techniques of counselling, to assist individuals and or groups with trauma, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low self-confidence and low self-worth, including those who are neurodivergent.

What is Martial Arts Therapy? Martial Arts Therapy (MAT) refers to the usage of Martial Arts as an alternative or complementary therapy for a mental health disorder. This can include disorders of the body or of the mind. Martial arts and mental illness are an excellent therapeutic combination. The martial arts can help with mental illness symptoms by redirecting aggression, teaching confidence, and helping individuals set boundaries and sticking to them.

  • Help children, adolescents and adults recognise their potential through the delivery of Martial Arts Therapy.

  • People with mental illness often lack confidence. Martial arts are one of many ways to gain self-confidence. Martial arts teach assertiveness and the more you study, the more confident you become.

  • Neurodivergent, people with Autism, ADHD, PDA, ODD, and other learning difficulties benefit from this active form of therapy combining martial arts and counselling and an empathetic approach.

What is the process? We start by talking, walking and building (literally and metaphorically) achievable goals together and through this process we introduce you to a step by step, kick by kick process of Martial Arts Therapy. Taking individual small steps leading into a transformation journey of self discovery, using a combination of expressive therapies leading to MAT and how you can achieve your full potential. We take a unique, holistic approach and bring to the table years of experience in fitness/martial arts training and counselling. Tailoring each program to suit the individual, no program is the same.

Women

Thelo caters to women of any age with all kinds of challenges and issues. Many women give much of themselves to their careers and to supporting those around them, managing a household, raising children, supporting husbands/partners, caring for elderly parents, and in the process, often derailing their mental and physical health and overall wellbeing. Feeling unable to or unsure about seeking support and guidance many women suffer. At Thelo we work to empower women and rediscover and rebuild the best you.

Schools

Thelo works with school groups helping children and adolescents recognise their potential through the various deliveries of expressive therapies, which includes martial arts and fitness. Martial arts are one of many ways to gain self-confidence, learn assertiveness and take an active role in their growth and wellbeing.

Tailored services are also available for teaching and other staff.

Athletes

As an ex-competitive athlete Vickie understands what it feels like to be at the top of your athletic game, and also what it feels like to leave a sport you love. Navigating the highs, lows and challenges involved in maintaining peak fitness and mental acuity required of an athlete is intense. Leaving a sport that has defined who you are is one of the hardest things to do, especially when sometimes it is not your choice, but rather the circumstances making that decision for you. Thelo can help you focus, find your purpose and passion, and set you up with tailored goals to work towards.
